Hello stamping friends!
Yes, I’m still here – I don’t leave for Leadership until early, early Wednesday morning (my flight leaves at 6 am, so I have to be at the airport at 4 am! *ack*!!) I’m using this time to make more swaps – I’m almost finished my ‘organized’ swap cards – that’s where everyone swapping has signed up ahead of time, so we all know how many to make – and I’m hoping to have time to make some extras, so that I can just randomly swap with whoever I happen to bump in to! I’m starting to get very excited, plus a bit nervous. I am looking forward to meeting a lot of people that I’ve been ‘virtual’ friends with, on our Demonstrator only forum; meeting them in person will be such a treat 🙂
My last class was my monthly ‘Technique Junquies’ club; we meet once a month, and I teach 1 or 2 new techniques, and we complete 1 full project using at least one of the techniques. This past Friday’s class I taught the Bokeh technique, which is all the rage right now!!
Bokeh is from the Japanese word meaning ‘to blur’, and it’s actually a photographic technique where the lens is manipulated to make the points of light out of focus. Well, leave it to stampers to figure out how to do this with inks and paper! 🙂
We started with a sample square, that everyone attaches to their written instruction sheet & keeps in their technique binder.
We started by creating the background; first sponging the Blackberry Bliss ink, then adding the Lost Lagoon ink, using sponge daubers.
After the background, we add the circles of ‘light’ by using a template I created with different sized circles, white craft ink, again using sponge daubers.
I love this colour combination, but just to show how you can achieve totally different looks just by changing the colours, I did this one;
This sample was made using Soft Sky and Pear Pizzazz inks for the background. A lot more subtle, isn’t it? But still very pretty 🙂
Here are the ladies, concentrating on their samples, even though my instructions included ‘try not to over-think it!’
And here they are with their completed cards – as well as the flower that we made using the new Bow Builder Punch! 🙂
This is my completed card; you can see that although everyone worked from the same sample (my card) they all look a bit different. Depending on the pressure applied when inking your background, and the amount of blending that you do, gives you a different look. So it’s quite possible to make the exact same card, and come away with 2 different looks!
I used the sentiment stamps from the Lotus Blossom set (which you can only get for FREE! during Sale-a-bration), inked in Blackberry Bliss, and added some 3/8″ Stitch Satin Ribbon in Blackberry Bliss on the side, and 3 Pearl Basic Jewels under the ‘thank you’. The whole front panel is popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals on a Lost Lagoon card stock base.
I forgot to take picture of the bow and the flower we made with the Bow Builder Punch; they’re still on my table, so I’ll do that, and post them tomorrow!
The products I used are all pictured below; if you’d like to order them, simply click on the picture, and you’ll be taken directly to my online store. If you’d like to have me order them for you, just remember that I’ll be away between Wednesday Jan. 28th and Sunday, Feb. 1st.
Be sure to take advantage of the amazing Sale-a-bration special – with each $60 order, you get to choose 1 FREE PRODUCT from the Sale-a-bration brochure!! If you want to have a look through the brochure, just click on the picture of it on the right side panel of my blog.
Until tomorrow – happy stamping!
