A Little Behind

You’d think that as someone who primarily makes cards, I’d be an ace card sender, right? Ha! Wrong!! I can create cards like nobody’s business, but getting them into the mailbox is a whole other skill! Which, apparently I’m lacking. This past Christmas, I decided that I’d take a few cards to the post office, to determine what denomination of stamps I would need. Then, I bought a whole bunch of them for Canada, U.S., and overseas – so that removed the dreaded post office line ups! That way, all I had to do was create, write in, address, add  appropriate postage, and walk to the mailbox. Bingo – I got my holiday cards all sent in time! Now I just have to figure out the same recipe for birthday cards *wink*  Today’s card is a fun belated birthday card (that I don’t need *yet*), with the Art Impressions stamp set called Little Behind.

A LITTLE BEHIND

This is an older set that I’ve had for a while – but just found when clearing out some old supplies!

A Little Behind

When I looked on the Ai online store for the link to this set – I found out it’s no longer available! Sorry about that – but they do have other sets that use the Action Wobbles; you can see them HERE.

CARD DETAILS

Start by stamping the images – cat front and rear – on a separate piece of white cardstock in Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Colour the images with alcohol markers. I chose my Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers in Natural Brown, Sand and Dusty Pink.  After colouring, cut out the images with scissors. As you’ll be able to see the back end of the cat through the opening, be sure to colour both sides of the cats rear.

Create your card base with cardstock that measures 4 1/4″ x 11″. Make your score lines at 5 1/4″ and 5 1/2″; this gives you extra room for the Action Wobble, when closing the card.

Now, glue on some patterned paper to the card front. Use a circle die to die cut an opening. Use stitched circle dies to cut a frame for the opening, and attach it with glue. Next, attach the front of the cat, putting glue on just his paws and base of his tummy on the back. This makes him look like his paws are overhanging the front of the circle.

The Action Wobble comes with this set, or you can buy extras from Art Impressions. Attach the Action Wobble to the front facing side of the cat’s rear; then remove the other adhesive cover, and attach it to the back side of the cat front.  This photo below shows you what your cat looks like, when the card is open.

When you touch the rear of the cat, it will ‘wobble’ back & forth, thanks to the Action Wobble!

With the extra width in the card closing, it looks like this, below, when closed.

ADD SENTIMENTS

I decided to make my card for a belated birthday, so I added sentiments from a  Penny Black and a Stampin’ Up! set for the front. Inside, I used the sentiment that comes with the set that says ‘A Little Behind’; I added the word “I’m” using a black Micron pen.

HAVE SOME FUN!

Art Impressions has a great array of stamps, from these funny ‘wobble/shaker’ sets, to beautiful watercolour sets. They do also carry the Action Wobbles, markers and watercolour accessories HERE.  I hope that you’ll check them out; there’s also a great range of dies from basic shapes to specialty sliders, windows, etc.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)
