Altenew Everlasting Happiness

Today I have some new products to share with you! The gorgeous Altenew Everlasting Happiness stamp set, and some new Spectrum Noir Illustrator alcohol markers. I just received my order from Maple Syrup Designs a couple of days ago, so of course I had to play!

EVERLASTING HAPPINESS

This stamp set comes with loads of great sentiments, as well as 2 gorgeous images. The one I used for this card is the smaller one; the larger image is bigger than a standard A2 card front!

I love the wreath inspired shape of the image. And the size of the flowers is just perfect for colouring!

CARD DETAILS

On a panel of white cardstock, stamp the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink. This ink is safe for colouring with alcohol markers.  I’ve never used the Spectrum Noir Illustrator markers before, but the reviews I read were very positive. So I’ve started with about a half dozen markers – coordinating colours for blending – plus a colourless blending marker. For this card I used PL2 Violet, PL1 Soft Purple, FS6 Cream and FS5 Peach.  The leaves are coloured with Stampin’ Up! Blends markers, which are also alcohol based.

After colouring the flowers, I went back with my white Polychromos pencil to add in some subtle highlights, mainly on the purple flowers.  Here’s a close up photo, below, so you can see the colours.

The sentiment, also from the Everlasting Happiness stamp set, is stamped in the middle of the circle, with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink. Cover the saying with clear embossing powder, and set with a  heat tool. I like this ink for sentiments, as it doesn’t ‘fill in’ any small openings in the letters.

To add some detail to the panel, I used my scoring tool to add 2 vertical lines to the right, and 2 horizontal lines across the bottom.  Next, attach the front panel with foam tape to a peach coloured cardstock panel, offsetting it to the right hand side. Finally, attach the panels to a dark purple card base.

This is a nice, clean and simple card. I’m tempted to add some splatters or embellishments to the front (top left corner), but I held off on that – CAS is not my strong suit! LOL

SPECTRUM NOIR ILLUSTRATOR MARKER

I’ve only just tried them out, but I really like how smoothly the the Illustrator markers apply to the cardstock. They’re no streaking or harsh lines, and they’re nice to hold, as well. Each marker has double-ended, with a nib tip at one end, and a brush tip at the other. The brush tip is great for larger areas, and the nib is smaller, which is good for smaller areas.  I’ve created a swatch panel for the my markers, although the colours on the end caps are pretty true to colour, except for the Violet -I think the cap looks more like a light blue. Swatching is always a good idea, I think. It gives you a true colour reference, and it’s good to have for each medium you’re working with – markers, inks and paints.

I’m looking forward to working with them a lot more – stay tuned for more samples! In the meantime, if you’re looking for a great resource for these Illustrator markers, and more, I highly recommend Maple Syrup Designs! They are one of my affiliates; great service and selection! They’re located on the east coast of Canada, with good pricing and fair shipping.  I’ve included links below, for your online shopping. I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)

    1. Something about a wreath makes them beautiful, right Susan? Thanks so much for your kind comment about my colouring 😉 I’m still working on my technique!

    1. Thanks, Buffy! I think the extra scoring is a nice subtle touch, too. I’m thinking I should’ve added a couple more short ones in the opposite, upper corner too. Next time! 🙂

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
