Altenew In My Thoughts

Recently, I was lucky enough to win a $30 gift certificate from Altenew, in one of their contest! I finally decided what I wanted, and my order arrived a couple of days ago. I just love this kind of happy mail – new products to play with 🙂 Part of my order included the Altenew In My Thoughts stamp and die bundle, which I’m sharing with you today.

Like birthday cards, we always need sympathy cards. It can be difficult to decide what type of image to use for these cards. Nature, I find, is always a good source, which is why I chose this set.

Altenew In My Thoughts

The nice thing about this stamp set is that you’re not limited to just sympathy; it includes sentiments for birthday, or other celebrations.

I was originally going to create this as a watercolour image, so I set up the stamp in my MISTI with a watercolour panel. But then I changed my mind, so this is Distress inks, on watercolour paper. That’s why you see more texture, than on regular cardstock.

First, stamp the solid tree trunk stamp in Vintage Photo Distress Oxide ink.  Clean & remove this stamp. Next, stamp the thin branch stamp over top, in Tea Dye ink. Clean & remove this stamp, and then align the petals stamp. Ink with Picked Raspberry Distress ink, and stamp on top of the tree trunk.  Using the stamp platform allows for re-inking and stamping more than once, which you’ll need to do on watercolour paper, to get a good image.

After stamping, use the In My Thoughts coordinating die, and die cut the image.  Use your MISTI again, setting up the note card base and placing (without glue) the tree image where you want it. Now, align the 2 sentiment stamps, and pick them up with the platform lid. You can now remove the die cut image, and stamp the sentiments at the same time, in Nocturne ink. Cover them with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now you can attach the tree image with foam tape or squares.

For the card base, I used a note card, from my stash, that has a lovely watercolour wash printed on it.

I’m looking forward to using different colours, to symbolize the different seasons, on this image! You can even leave the tree bare of leaves/petals, for winter.

If you’re inspired to see what else is on offer at Altenew – you’ll be glad you checked them out! I think they’re one of the best for flower images, and they have a lot of coordinating dies for their stamps. They also have amazing stencils – I got 3 of those in my order, too, so stay tuned for those! I’ve included links below, for online shopping.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
