Beautiful Day Layered Flowers

I’m in the mood for flowers right now; I think it must be the season! New blooms are everywhere, now that our weather is hot & dry. On the other hand, we are in some serious need of rain – or else the blooms won’t be doing so well, soon. Summer hasn’t even started yet, but our rainfall has been noticeably absent, for us here on what is usually the ‘wet’ west coast. But I can always create paper flowers, no matter what the season. Today I’m using the Altenew Beautiful Day set for layered flowers.

LAYERED FLOWERS

The large bloom in this stamp set is gorgeous! It’s a multi-layer stamp, so you get great depth in the image. Altenew definitely knows how to create these layered stamps.

Keeping the background fairly simple allows you to give  your full attention to the flowers.

IMAGE DETAILS

I chose to use the 3 colouring images for the flowers, and not use the outline image. Leaving off the outline makes the flowers appear more realistic, I think. I do love to use just the outline image for colouring, like I did for THIS CARD.

Start with a panel of white cardstock, set up in your stamp platform. I used my MISTI. Using a stamp platform for multi-layer cards take some of the guess work out of lining up your images for each layer. Start with your lightest colour, then mid colour, then darkest colour for each flower. For the pink flowers, I chose Spun Sugar Distress Oxide, Picked Raspberry and Festive Berries Distress inks. For the yellow flower, I used Mustard Seed, Fossilized Amber and Abandoned Coral Distress Oxide inks. Bringing in the Abandoned Coral helps tie this flower to the pink ones.

The leaves have 3 layers of stamps, but again, I chose to now use the outline stamp. The colours are Cracked Pistachio and Pine Needles Distress Oxide inks.

The sentiment, from the Concord & 9th Everyday Bouquet Turnabout Stamp set, is stamped in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a 1/2″ strip of white cardstock.

LAYER YOUR FLOWERS

Once your flowers & leaves are stamped, use the coordinating Beautiful Day dies for die cutting. Lay out a panel of 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″, and arrange your flowers and leaves on top of it. Now – use what I call the ‘Press ‘N Seal’ technique to keep everything in place, while you add the adhesive to the back! Lay a piece of Press ‘N Seal – yes, from your kitchen – over the top of your arranged flowers and leaves. Press it down, and then lift it off of the white panel. Flip over the Press ‘N Seal, and add your foam tape or square to the back of  your arrangement! Don’t forget to add some in between the layers, for depth.

Remove the backing from the adhesive, and simply flip the whole arrangement back onto the white panel. Voila – your pieces are all in place! Now attach your front panel to a piece of patterned paper with foam tape, and then add that to a card base of bright pink, to coordinate with the pink flowers. Finally, add your sentiment to the front, with foam tape.

I hope you’ll try out this technique, and layout. It was lots of fun to create. And easy, considering the matching dies, and Press ‘N Seal technique 🙂  If you need supplies, I’ve added links below, for easy shopping. Have yourself a beautiful day!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)
