Bokeh Dots Background

BOKEH DOTS BACKGROUND

I love using the bokeh background technique, and the beautiful look it creates. I’ve used it in past cards – you can see my Technique Club working on it in THIS POST. The technique involves creating a template, and sponging with a dauber and craft ink.

BOKEH DOTS STAMP

Stampin’ Up! has come up with a way to shorten this creative technique – with the Bokeh Dots background stamp! You can find it on page 153 of the Annual catalogue. Unlike our ‘usual’ background stamps, it is smaller, measuring about 3 1/4″ x 4 1/4″.  The set actually comes with 2 stamps; the Bokeh Dots and one that looks like fireworks!

This stamp duo is also one of the new ‘DistINKtive Stamps‘; it’s created in a special way so that the stamp picks up & lays down the ink at different opacities. Which makes it perfect for the bokeh technique! I haven’t used the star one yet – you can be sure you’ll be seeing a card from me with it, soon!

BOKEH DOTS BACKGROUND WITH ROOTED IN NATURE

I’m really please with how this turned out!

Bokeh Dots Background

I used a combination of Balmy Blue and Granny Apple Green, with just a touch of Crumb Cake for the tree trunk, and the Linen Thread.

DETAILS

Start with a panel of Whisper White cardstock. Ink up the Bokeh Dots stamp with Balmy Blue ink, and stamp in the middle of the panel. Next, ink up the tall tree from the Rooted in Nature stamp set in Granny Apple Green ink. Wipe off the trunk with a piece of paper towel, then use your Crumb Cake  Stampin’ Write Marker to colour it back in. Stamp once in the lower left corner of the bokeh background, then without adding any more ink, stamp again behind and to the left of the first tree. (This is called ‘stamping off’).

Stamp the sentiment from Rooted in Nature in Granny Apple Green ink on a scrap piece of Whisper White. Use your Paper Snips to cut the words apart.

Wrap a length of Linen Thread twice around the bottom of the panel, attaching it at the back with Tear & Tape. Attach the words to the front right  part of the panel, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Now layer your stamped panel onto a 1/4″ larger panel of Balmy Blue cardstock, with Dimensionals. Finally, attach the front panels to a card base of Granny Apple Green cardstock.

Bokeh Dots Background

I just love how the Bokeh Dots stamp creates a ‘dappled sky’ background effect! Yes, I am really please with how this card turned out 🙂

INSIDE STAMPING

Of course, as I always say – don’t forget about the inside of your card!

Bokeh Dots Background

I kept it simple inside; stamping the sentiment and small leafy branch from Rooted in Nature in Granny Apple Green ink.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project; whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :) If you're in Canada, you can Join My Team as a SU! demonstrator. 1. Deb, this is simply a remarkably beautiful card. I love the bokeh background, and the fact that you stamped the tree twice really adds to the beauty of this card. I love the colors that you selected, too

    1. I’m so glad you like my bokeh card, Jackie! Thanks for such a kind comment 🙂 I really did enjoy making this card.

    1. I’m just loving our colour refresh, aren’t you, Susan? So glad you like my card & the new Bokeh stamp!

    1. Thanks, Buffy! I don’t really have any tips, except to remember that this is a ‘DisINKtive’ style stamp, so the amount of ink you pick up makes a big difference!

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
