By The Sea Theme Challenge

Welcome to this week’s theme challenge, with the Paper Craft Crew! I hope you enjoyed the last challenge, which was extended to 2 weeks. This time you only have 1 week though, so you’ll want to get to work right away. This week, we have a By The Sea theme challenge!

By the Sea Theme Challenge

It’s a perfect time of year for this theme, don’t you think? Maybe it’s not quite hot enough yet in some areas (or some days!) to be sitting by the sea, but we can dream!

I couldn’t resist pulling out my favourite stamp set from the last catalogue- Waterfront. This time, I used the palm trees and beach hut image, which I hadn’t really used in the past. Let me know how you like it!

I wish I were getting ready to lay out my beach towel under those palm trees, right now!

I definitely wanted to keep the colours light & bright, but decided to add a little ‘drama’ by making the scene during sunset.

Start with a panel of Shimmery White cardstock. To set your horizon, stamp the sand in Crumb Cake ink, using the long single strip image in the Waterfront stamp set. To create the sky, use the same stamp, and the double ‘swoosh’ stamp with Flirty Flamingo (stamped off once), Grapefruit Grove (stamped off once) and Pineapple Punch (stamped off once).  To add the blue above the sunset colours, pick up some Pool Party ink with an Aqua Painter, and lightly brush it across the top, and in between the colours. Once your happy with your sunset, stamp the sun in Grapefruit Grove ink, full strength. The water is a combination of Coastal Cabana and Balmy Blue ink. I used both the largest image stamp, and the one used for the sand, to create the water. I also used my Aqua Painter to spread the inks together.

Stamp the palm tree trunks in Soft Suede ink, then add the fronds in Call Me Clover ink. Add the beach hut in Merry Merlot ink.

The sentiment, also from the Waterfront stamp set, is in Coastal Cabana ink, on Whisper White cardstock. Create the tag like shape by punching out each corner with the 1/2″ Circle Punch. Do the same with a small piece of Coastal Cabana cardstock, and layer it behind the sentiment with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

Take a length of Burlap Ribbon, and remove a few of the strands, to create a looser weave look. Attach it underneath the sentiment panel, and to the back of the stamped  panel, with Tear & Tape. Attach the sentiment to the stamped panel with Dimensionals.

Create a 1/4″ larger panel of Grapefruit Grove cardstock, and attach the stamped panel to it with Dimensionals. Now complete the card front by attaching the panels to a Coastal Cabana cardstock base.

It always bears repeating – stamp on the inside! This time I added a sentiment from the Waterfront stamp set, in Coastal Cabana ink. I also added the palm trees in the bottom right corner. I used the same colours as on the card front; Soft Suede and Call Me Clover.

I think this fun card can be used for a number of different occasions, including just a ‘thinking of you’ card.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)

  1. Gorgeous colors – and I LOVE the sunset. Reminds me of some of Susan’s lake sunsets. And, now, Mr. Todd….I have yet another earworm for the day. Thanks for that. Need to make some more meat pies so I can visit the beach in your card. Signed – Mrs. Lovett

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
