Hello, Stamping Friends! I hope you're enjoying your weekend; I've been doing my regular chores and errands, and thinking that it's time to say 'good-bye' to summer! Our weather has turned cooler, and the forecast is for rain & showers for most of the week, so I guess it's that time to welcome Autumn and look forward to the turning leaves, cozy sweaters and enjoying crafting indoors 🙂 Well, I just have to share with you the fun that we had this Friday night at our Chicks 'n Chocolate card making class! I so enjoy getting together with a wonderful group, and sharing laughs, crafts and yummy treats 🙂 So I thought I'd share with you not just the terrific cards we made, but also the treats that truly made it a 'chocoholics delight'! First we started with making a few cards:
The first card is for Thanksgiving; the pumpkin is punch art made using the Large Oval Punch (#119855), and punch 3 ovals from Pumpkin Pie card stock and layering them with dimensionals. The edges of the ovals are sponged in Pumpkin Pie ink to give depth. The Old Olive card stock panel is embossed on the top 1/2 using the Chevron embossing folder (#127749) (my nod to Charlie Brown!), and strips of Epic Day This n' That Washi Tape (#131269) are run diagonally under the pumpkin. The sentiment is from the Seasonal Sayings stamp set (#128009clear/131937wood), stamped in Old Olive classic ink.
The Hallowe'en card you may recognize from the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop; it was so cute, I just new the class would love making this one! (and they did!)
We layered a strip of Witches Brew designer series paper onto a Whisper White card base. On top of that, we stacked 3 layers cut using the Labels Collection Framelits and the Big Shot in Basic Black, Pumpkin Pie and Whisper White card stock.
The image and sentiment are both from the newest 'Best of' set for September – Best of Hallowe'en. Isn't it terrific?! Spooky, but not creepy 🙂 We got creative to make the bats, by first punching out 2 Basic Black butterflies using the Elegant Butterfly Punch (#127526), and then using the 1/2" Circle Punch (#119869) to remove the 'elegant' parts of the butterfly! Presto – you have bats 🙂
For this Friends Forever card, the Whisper White card stock base was embossed with the newest 'Pretty Print' Textured Embossing Folder (#132175) from the Holiday Catalogue. The banners were cut from Birthday Basics (#130145) and retired Sycamore Street Designer Series Papers. The sentiment is from the Banner Greetings stamp set (#129714clear/129711wood), and the butterflies were made using the Big Shot and the Beautiful Wings Embosslits (#118138).
After making these 3 cards, we decided to take a break, and enjoy some beverages and these delightfully decadent chocolate treats!
There were chocolate dipped chocolate chip cookies, as well as double chocolate cookies, wrapped in their own pouches. The pouches were actually envelopes made with the new Stampin' Up! Envelope Punch Board – I'm going to show you how to use that on another post! Don't they look cute? Since they were wrapped, they were perfect for taking home 🙂
I just love showing how you can use Stampin' Up! products; here are the 1"x8" Cello Bags (item#124134) filled with Smarties, with a cute Hallowe'en topper (retired stamp set). These are perfect for giving out to your children's friends, your co-workers, or just about anyone! Change the topper and contents, and you can use them for any occasion!
I decided that we probably wouldn't have time to do a whole chocolate fondue, but I just had to make some Godiva Chocolate dipped strawberries! Yumm! I had fun adding little toothpicks topped with sayings from the retired stamp set appropriately called 'Eat Chocolate' 🙂
This treat was, I think, the biggest hit of the night! It's a Skor Bar trifle; made with chocolate pudding, whipped cream, brownies and crushed Skor Bars; can you say delicious?! Let's just say, my 2 teenaged sons were thrilled that there were left-over goodies from this class!
After we finally dragged ourselves away from the goodies, we did managed to complete the final 3 cards of the evening:
Yes, I do love butterflies, and luckily so did the ladies in the class! You can see again here the Papillion Potpourri stamp set (#123759 clear/132058 wood) stamped in Calypso Coral and Pool Party. For the largest butterfly, we coloured it using markers to coordinate with the Epic Day designer series paper used, in Pool Party, Daffodil Delight and Calypso Coral. The sentiment was stamped from the Simply Sketched hostess set (#129672 clear/129669 wood), and the Whisper White card stock layer was embellished using the Candy Dots in Daffodil Delight (Brights #130931) and Candy Dots Brad Bases (#132293).
Isn't this birthday card so cheerful? I just love the punch-art balloons 🙂 The card stock base is Very Vanilla, and embossed with the Stylish Stripes Textured Impressions Embossing Folder (#132174) from the Holiday Catalogue. The next layer is a piece of Gumball Green card stock, layered with Birthday Basics designer series paper (another of my favourites – so many patterns!). The balloons were using the 1" Circle Punch (#119858), and then using the 'feet' of the Owl Builder Punch (#118074) to make the part where the string is tied. Bakers twine was used to connect the balloons to the sentiment, which is from the Chalk Talk stamp set (#130634 clear/130631 wood) and cut with the matching Framelit set (#129983).
Our last card for the evening was a Christmas card – yes, we all know it's coming, so we might as well get ready! 🙂
I'm in love with this new Christmas Star stamp (#134813); it's one of the Limited time Single Stamps that were released, and only availalbe until January 2014. (get yours now – you won't regret it!!)
We layered Midnight Muse card stock onto Whisper White, and stamped the star onto Whisper White card stock in Midnight Muse ink, and cut it out with paper snips. By lightly scoring the reverse side of the star, and using dimensionals to adhere it, we were able to make the star 3D – it's so fabulous in real life!
I'd like to say a huge 'thank you' to my lovely ladies, who made the class so much fun – I'm glad that you enjoyed yourselves! 🙂
Here they are – (left to right) Amanda, Deanne, Christine and Debbie. You rock, girls!
Until next time – Happy Stamping!
