Christmas in July

Scrap ‘N Stamp is having a Christmas in July challenge, on their Facebook challenge page, so I thought I’d join in! The challenge is open to everyone. You only need to have access to Facebook, and then you can post your card. The challenge page is HERE – I hope you’ll join us! Each month is a new theme, and 1 winner from all of the posts is randomly chosen to receive a Gift Certificate. As I said, this month’s challenge is Christmas in July – so let’s get jolly!

WINTER TREE

I brought out two of my favourite Penny Black stamps from last season. The large tree is called Winter Tree, and the sentiment is from the Peaceful Season stamp set.

Christmas in July

Some snow drifts, and ink blended background and some fun snow embellishment – this card came together quite quickly, and it was fun to create!

CARD DETAILS

First, cut your panel of white cardstock. To create the snow drifts, use a scrap piece of paper, torn into a drift & well, and blend on some Milled Lavender and Broken China Distress ink.  Next, create your sky background. I decided to make it look like dusk was starting to set in, so I added some fading sun, and then darker blue sky. The colours I chose are Fossilized Amber, Broken China, Salty Ocean and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxide ink.

After your background is created, set up the panel in your stamp platform. Place the Winter Tree stamp where you want it on the panel, and then close the platform lid, to pick it up. Cover the image in a dark green ink, and stamp down onto your background panel. I stamped twice, adding more ink on the second stamping, to ensure a nice dark image. The stamp does leave white areas on the tree, to indicate where snow would have accumulated. This is where the real fun comes in!

CREATING THE SNOW EFFECT

To create the 3D snow effect, use the Hero Arts Snow & Froth Kit. First, apply the white liquid where you want the snow to be. Next, cover this with the white textured embossing powder, and set it with a heat tool. As the powder sets, it puffs up, making it look like real snow!

Once your tree and drifts are appropriately snowy, go back and add small dots of the liquid all over the panel, and then cover them with the embossing powder. Heat set the dots, watch them puff up, and voila! You have snowflakes!  This picture below shows you the awesome 3D effect.

FINISH IT OFF

I guess I should have added the sentiment before the snowflakes – but oh well! I set up the panel in my MISTI again, and aligned the sentiment from the Peaceful Season stamp set. The holiday sentiments in this set are awesome, by the way! Ink and stamp the sentiment twice with Versafine Clair ink in Nocturne, if you stamp over a few snowflakes.  Cover the sentiment with clear embossing powder, and heat set.

Now you can attach your image panel to a blue card base, and you’re done!

Christmas in July

This would be a great card to mass produce – no one would know how easily it came together! (just don’t show them this post).

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)
