Happy Friday, stamping friend! I hope you’ve had a good week. Mine has been good, but really too hot for me. Okay – it’s not the heat, it’s “the humidity!” Did you say that with me? As I’m writing this on Wednesday evening, the inside of the house is registering 29 Celsius, which is 83 Fahrenheit. Outside today, it reached 32 C., which is almost 89 F. That’s without the humidity added in. *sigh* So, the Twinkle Twinkle little star card I’m sharing with you actually wasn’t made this week. I made it several weeks ago, to send for one of my niece’s baby shower.
A VERY WANTED BABY
My niece and her husband applied to adopt about 4 years ago, and they just recently found out that they have been selected!! The birth mother herself chose them, out of all the other applicants, to be the new parents of her baby girl. But wait – there’s more! The baby isn’t due until almost the end of this month, so we have added anticipation added to the excitement! They know the baby will be a girl, but that’s it for now. So, my sister (her mom, of course) along with her sister and sister in law held a baby shower for her this past weekend. Which means I can now share the card!
DO YOU KNOW HOW LOVED YOU ARE?
I just adore the sentiment in this stamp set! It’s a set from Stampin’ Up! called Moon Baby. I borrowed it from my friend and former team member (from when I was a demo). I knew it was the perfect sentiment for this baby.
Isn’t this just too cute?! I really had fun making it 🙂
Since the baby is resting in the moon, I decided to create a galaxy background. To do this, start with a panel of white cardstock. Use your blending tools to add Distress inks to the panel. Word of warning – as you’re working on it, it will look like a hot mess, until you’re done! Every time I do this technique, I’m ready to chuck it in the bin half way through. But hang in there! The colours I chose are Seedless Preserves, Mustard Seed, Blueprint Sketch and Black Soot.
After blending the ink colours, spray droplets of water over the panel. These inks are meant to react with water; you can see the lighter areas where the water landed. Blot up any excess/large water dots with a paper towel. Next, I wanted some glimmer in the galaxy, but didn’t want any actual star shapes. So I did a combination of spraying and dropping Shimmer Spray in Frost. This panel really shimmered in person!
Put aside your panel to completely dry, and work on your images. Stamp the baby & moon image in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink, and set with clear embossing powder. I used my Zig Clean Colour Real Brush Markers for colouring the images – I’m sorry, but I can’t find where I wrote down the colours I used! For the star, I die cut a tiny star from silver foil cardstock. The line for the baby holding the star is drawn with a Versamarker, and set with silver embossing powder. No extra measures were spared! Next, die cut a circle from Vellum, and attach it to the back of the baby/moon image. This will be the ‘unlit’ part of the moon.
The sentiment, also from the Moon Baby set, is stamped in Versamark ink onto black cardstock, and heat embossed with white embossing powder.
BUILD YOUR CARD
Now that all of the piece are ready, it’s time to put the card together! Create a card base from yellow cardstock. Attach a bright pink cardstock panel to the front, with foam tape. Next, attach your blended galaxy panel, again with foam tape.
In the middle of the card, attach the image, using foam tape or squares. Finally, attach the sentiment strips to the top left and bottom right of the card front.
I wasn’t able to attend the baby shower, but I sure hope that she liked the card! (and gifts – of course I sent gifts!)
