Friendships – what it’s all about

Welcome back again, stamping friends!  Thanks so much for visiting me twice yesterday; I just had to get my card in for the Paper Craft Crew Challenge – participating in more challenges is one of my goals for this year, so I didn’t want to blow it this early in the year! 😉

Now, I know that I said I would share some of the cards that were made on the demonstrator stage at Leadership – and I will!  However today I thought we’d take a break from cards (I shared SO many of them yesterday!!) and I will share with you the gifts I made for my friends and roommate.

For some reason, every stamper I know loves chocolate – me included!  So that was my first gift of choice 🙂  (plus – as your energy is starting to fade during the long sessions, it’s always good to have a bit of chocolate handy as a pick-me-up!)  These were made for Blythe, Elaine, Buffy and Susan.

friend gifts chocolate tins

These are small metal hinged tins that have a clear acetate window in the top.  To dress them up, I made each of them a belly-band using Designer Series Paper.  I then stamped the flowers with the Flower Shop stamp set, and punched them out using the Pansy Punch.  The tags were made using the Chalk Talk stamp set and cut out using the coordinating Chalk Talk Framelits die, then the flowers were layered with ribbon or baker’s twine on top of the tags, and all glued onto the belly band.

hershey nuggets wrapped

Of course, I can’t just give out ‘naked’ chocolate – so I covered their foil wrappers with a strip of DSP that matches the DSP used to make the belly band 🙂

This next little gift is something anyone can use – by the phone, the computer – wherever you need to jot down a note.

Top Note note holders

I was really please that my friends enjoyed these gifts; they were fun to make, too!  The back of the note holder is made using the Top Note Bigz die; I attached a little open topped box onto the front, added some Designer Series Paper for decoration, and made little note papers stamped with the Perpetual Calendar stamp set.  The ‘Happy Stampin’ sentiment is from a now retired demonstrator set called Best Decision Ever.

bow punch flower

I made this one for my ‘cyber’ friend Buffy, whom I met in person for the first time at Leadership.  I decorated the front of the note holder by creating a flower using the Bow Builder punch, and put one of the snowflake embellishments from last year in the centre.  I also added the same Back to Black DSP to the inside of the pen – coordination rocks! 😉

butterfly note pad holder

This one was for another of my ‘cyber’ friend demos, Susan.  We had all gotten to know each other over the past couple of years on the SU! demonstrator only site.  I just love the Butterfly Basics stamp set & Butterfly Thinlits dies, so I used them with the fun Sweet Taffy DSP (also inside  the pen!).

spiral flower die

I have been seriously under-using my Spiral Flower Originals die – I think it worked well on this note holder!  I used 2 layers of DSP to make the flower – 2 sides of the same pattern in the Best Year Ever from the Sale-a-bration brochure.  Of course, coordination is key, so I also used a button & ribbon from the Best Year Ever Accessory Pack – also earned for FREE from Sale-a-bration!  This note holder was a gift for my (never before met, but friend-0f-a-friend) roommate, Elaine.

The little stands that the note holders are sitting on, I found at our local dollar store – I think they’re meant as phone holders – but this works for me 🙂

These are the wonderful ladies for whom these gifts were made:

Susan, Buffy, Me

Here are (left to right) Susan Bowers-Horr, Buffy Cooper, and me.

me & Elaine

This is me and my roomie, Elaine Schader 🙂    (I will never master the art of the ‘selfie’ – I’m too uncoordinated for that! LOL)

me & Blythe

This picture is of me and the amazing Blythe Klipple; another ‘cyber’ friend of the last few years.  Blythe always gets totally into the spirit of the event, by adding one of the Stampin’ Up! colours in her hair!  Seriously – she literally just swipes the ink pad through her hair.  For this event, Blythe chose to accent her ‘do’ with Pool Party ink, and I think she rocked it!!

Please be sure to click on my friend’s names  and check out their amazing blogs!  I’m proud to say I know some incredibly talented people!!

Speaking of talented – Susan made each of us a tag for the cute bags that Stampin’ Up! gives to every attendee – here’s the bag; love the ‘Best.Day.Ever.’!

Here is a better look at the cute tag Susan made for me:

Too cute, right?!  I was so thrilled to receive this gift, and it being personalized makes it extra special 🙂

Stampin’ Up! was very generous with the gifts that they gave to us attendees, as well!  I wasn’t lucky enough to win any of the Prize Patrol’s (Susan won all 4 of the new Blendabilities colours!!), but I still came home with quite a pile of goodies – have a look!

leadership goodies

Wow, right?!  2 new stamp sets – Balloon Bash and Hooray It’s Your Day, the Hooray It’s Your Day Project Kit that makes 20 cards with coordinating card stock envelopes, a package of Birthday Bash DSP, a Paper Pumpkin Kit (I chose the Framed Love kit from last  year, as I didn’t receive it), the Project Life Seasonal Snapshot Card Collection, and (not pictured) the Project Life Seasonal Snapshot Accessory Kit.   Like I said – ‘wow’, right?!  I know I’ll be having lots of fun creating with all these goodies 🙂

While I’m sharing pictures of stamping friends, I’d like to share one of another ‘cyber’ friends, who I got to meet at one of the card swaps.  Not only is she also a Canadian demonstrator, but she also lives in British Columbia – the same province as me!  Although she lives a long ways from me (I’m in the Lower Mainland; she’s in the Interior), Hetty is a wonderful person, and I’m very glad I got to meet her.

Hetty & me

The lighting is not the best – we were sitting in the outside patio at the restaurant (so that all 17 of us could fit!); and we decided to share this enormous, amazing, decadent chocolate cake with ice cream!  Friends and chocolate – it doesn’t get much better! 😉

If you’ve read all the way through this post – thanks for sticking it out!!  Honestly, for me the highlight of Leadership convention was the friends I met and made; yes, the training and demonstrations were fabulous, but it’s the people that make the experience.  It is amazing to me that I could travel to the other side of this continent, by myself, and still find myself feeling ‘at home’, welcome, and among friends.  Best.Experience.Ever.

I’ll be back tomorrow with more card sharing – until then, Happy Stamping, my friends!
