It’s Wednesday, and you know what that means! Yup – a new challenge with the Paper Craft Crew! This week is a sketch challenge I think you’ll enjoy. I took the opportunity to say that I hope your day sparkles!
PCC347 SKETCH CHALLENGE
Remember that you can change the orientation of the sketch, if you want to. You can flip it sideways, or upside down. And of course, the choice of colours, papers, stamps, etc is all up to you! Have fun with it; I’m looking forward to seeing what you create!
A LITTLE SPARKLE
A couple of weeks ago, I took part in a blog hop for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team. We all created pop up card boxes, and I purchased a new stamp & die set to use. It’s a set that’s not my usual style, but I needed something with images small enough to use with the box. If you missed our Hop, you can still enjoy it – you can start with my post HERE. Anyway – I’ve used that set again for today’s project! Have a look.
The set is by Lawn Fawn, called A Little Sparkle. Isn’t that unicorn just the cutest? And of course, I just HAD to add lots of sparkle – to go with the sentiment!
CARD DETAILS
I went with bright, unicorn type colours for this card! Purple, teal and yellow – all bright enough to make you need sunglasses. First, create the sparkly cloud background panel – this will need some time to dry. Cut a panel of teal coloured paper, and lay your cloud stencil over it. Hold it in place with low-tack tape; I use Thermo Web Purple Tape for this. Apply Nuvo Glimmer Paste in Moonstone, making sure not to build up the paste too much (or it will take forever to dry!). Remove the stencil, and be sure to wash it & your palette knife right away, so it doesn’t harden on. It will still was off, but it will be more difficult – and I like to make life easy!
Stamp the unicorn image once, and the two fairy images 3 times each, in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink on white cardstock. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. This will ensure that the ink won’t bleed when you colour it and then add the glitter paste. Use your alcohol markers to colour the images. I chose my Spectrum Noir Tri-Blend Markers. Now, use the coordinating A Little Sparkle dies and die cut each image. Next, apply the Nuvo Glimmer Paste to the fairy’s wings, and wand, and to the unicorn’s mane, tail, feet and horn. Set them aside to dry – these won’t take long, as the surface area covered is quite small.
Cut your panels to size; I trimmed down the cloudy stencil panel and used a strip of it to place behind the unicorn panel. Layer all the panels as shown in the sketch, and add your stamped images. Finish off your card by stamping the sentiment from the A Little Sparkle stamp set in Nocturne ink, and heat set it with clear embossing powder.
This is pretty cute, right? Like I said – not my usual style, but still fun. And who can resist that smiling unicorn?! Popping up all of the layers with foam tape really adds a lot of dimension to this card.
JOIN THE CHALLENGE!
I hope your day sparkles enough to convince you to join the challenge! You certainly don’t have to use such bright colours, or glimmer, that I chose. Make it your own – or push out of your comfort zone, like I did. For more inspiration, see what the rest of the Design Team created. Head over to the Paper Craft Crew challenge blog; that’s also where you’ll find the link to add your card.

I love the colors you used on this card and the sparkle is perfect!
I appreciate your kind comment, Susan! This stamp set style is really out of my ‘comfort zone’.
Such a fun card, Deborah! I love the “unicorn colors!” – and, of course, the sparkle makes me happy. This would have been totally out of my comfort zone five years ago. Something about grandkids changes your whole perspective. Who knew?? (Just wait!!)
I guess it’s because I have boys, Buffy – no sparkle or unicorns! I’m glad this card makes you happy 🙂
Wow! This is so cute! I love the layers and the sparkle! I also checked out the challenge, I hope to play sometime!
Thanks, Angela! This theme is out of my comfort zone, so I’m glad that other people like it!
