ICY SMOOSHED BACKGROUND
Hello again, stamping friend! I had such fun yesterday with the ‘smooshing’ technique, that I made another card to share with the same technique! For today, I created an icy smooshed background, for the Dashing Deer. I think of blues in winter as ‘icy’ colours, so that’s why I chose Balmy Blue, Smoky Slate and Night of Navy ink for my icy smooshed background.
I decided that the Dashing Deer set would be perfect for this card. I mean, you do find deer outside, right?
If you missed yesterday’s smooshed background, you can READ IT HERE. Using different ink colours creates a very different feeling to the card. The result of this technique reminds me of how a car windshield, or a window, would look, if it’s been damp, then very cold outside, creating the ice crystals on the glass.
CARD FRONT DETAILS
First, cut a 3 3/4″ x 5″ panel of Shimmery White cardstock. Next, open up the Smoky Slate, Balmy Blue and Night of Navy ink pads. Scrunch up a baby wipe (non-alcohol type), and pick up the Smoky Slate ink. Dab the ink from the baby wipe onto the cardstock. Do one colour at a time, moving from lightest to darkest. You can go back and add more ink if you want, until you achieve the look you want.
That was easy, wasn’t it?! Next, on a separate piece of Whisper White cardstock, stamp the standing deer image from the Dashing Deer stamp set, in Gray Granite ink. Use the Big Shot and the coordinating thinlit from the Detailed Deer Thinlits to die cut the stamped deer, plus one more from Night of Navy cardstock. Layer the 2 deer together, slightly offsetting them so that the Night of Navy one looks like a shadow behind the stamped deer. Use Stampin’ Dimensionals to attach them together.
This next picture shows a close up so you can see the smooshing, and the layered deer.
Choose your sentiment, and stamp it in Memento black ink onto the bottom left corner of the card. (mine is a non-SU! stamp). Now attach the layered deer, using Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Finish off your card front by adding 1 large and 2 small of the Frosted & Clear Epoxy Droplets – I used the Frosted ones.
Now, layer your front panel onto a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of Night of Navy cardstock with Dimensionals. Finally, create a card base of Balmy Blue cardstock, and attach your card front with Liquid Glue.
No one will ever know how quickly this card came together – and you don’t need to tell them! 😉 It’ll be our secret.
ORDER YOUR SUPPLIES AND GET SMOOSHING!
The difference between the smooshed background I made yesterday, and the on today, other than colour, is that today I used baby wipes instead of cling wrap. There’s not too much of a difference, not that you can really see just by looking at a photo. I think the baby wipes create a bit of a heavier background, probably because they pick up a bit more ink. You can order all the supplies, except your choice of baby wipes or cling wrap, from my online store.
