INSPIRATION CHALLENGE – HOLIDAYS!
Welcome back to another weekly challenge with the Paper Craft Crew! Everyone’s submissions for our challenges lately have been off the chart fabulous – thanks so much for taking part. I hope you’ll join us this week, as we have an inspiration challenge – holidays! Since a lot of us are in the midst of getting ready for the holidays (or even if you aren’t), this shouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
PCC318 INSPIRATION HOLIDAYS
Let’s have a look at the inspiration picture.
Remember that this picture is just for inspiration! Maybe gifts & baubles are what you connect with, during the holidays. Maybe it’s a nativity scene, or dancing elves, or snow! Whatever it is, create your card and join us in the inspiring challenge!
Now, before you say ‘oh, not another snowy scene!’ – in my defense, I had created this card over a week ago! Before I created yesterday’s card – the other one with trees and snow! LOL What can I say; to me, the holidays involve walking through nature, enjoying the sights and sounds. Every year we go to at least a couple of outdoor events, where nature’s beauty has been enhanced with fabulous light displays, holiday music playing, and of course warming huts with hot chocolate or mulled wine!
The Winter Tree stamp from Penny Black makes the perfect natural Christmas tree!
LARGE TREE DETAILS
For stamping the large tree, you definitely want to use your Stamparatus or MISTI stamp positioning tool. Place your Whisper White cardstock in the positioner, and line up your stamp so that your image will be to the left side of the panel. Stamp the tree first in Shabby Shutters Distress ink, then stamp it a second time in Pine Needles Distress ink, making sure to wipe the ink off of the trunk, first. If you don’t have those colours, you can use SU! Old Olive and then Shaded Spruce ink pads. Next, use your Stampin’ Write Marker in Soft Suede to colour in the trunk.
After stamping in the greens, clean off the stamp, and then re-ink it with Versamark ink. Stamp the tree again in the Versamark, and then cover it with Clear Embossing Powder. Set the powder with the Heat Tool. The final step is to use a Versamark pen, and go over the areas on the tree where the snow is, and then cover them with Lawn Fawn Textured White Embossing Powder, or SU! White Embossing Powder. Heat set those areas. To finish off this beautiful tree, use your Sakura Gelly Roll white pens to add some snow to the top branches of the tree.
SMALLER TREE DETAILS
To add some interest, create a couple of masked areas with the Post-it Labeling and Cover-up Tape. Make them little ‘wells’ where baby trees will be peeking up from the snow. Ink up just the top portion of the large tree image in Shabby Shutters ink, and stamp onto the panel. Add some snow to the branches, again using the white gel pen.
CREATING THE BACKGROUND & DRIFTS
Now for the really fun part! First, mask off a horizon line behind your trees, with the Post-it Labeling & Cover-Up Tape, or Post-it Notes. Try to give it some shape, not just a straight line. I do this just by cutting the top of the strip of tape with my scissors.
With your favourite blending tool – Sponge Daubers, Sponge, Blending Tool – of course I used my Life Changing Blender Brushes! – start by blending Tumbled Glass Distress ink closest to the trees. Next, blend in some Stampin Up! Pool Party ink, and then finally Highland Heather ink. For smooth transition between the colours, go back and blend each of the colours once more, focusing on where the colours meet.
Reposition the masks that you had created for the small trees, so they are just underneath the trees. Sponge on some Highland Heather ink, to create the shadow under the trees.
Stamp the sentiment from the Penny Black Peaceful Seasons stamp set in Versafine Clair Nocturne ink in the top right corner of the panel. Finally, Spray some water into your hand, and flick the drops at the panel. It will react with the inks, and create white spots, which will look like falling snow.
