Keep Calm & Be Crazy

KEEP CALM & BE CRAZY!

First – am I the only person who keeps mis-typing the word ‘calm’, and coming up with ‘clam’?! Just in case you read ‘clam’ in this post, remind yourself that I mean ‘calm’. Because of course, both are legit words, so auto correct or spell check won’t flag ‘clam’ for me! I need to take the title to heart; keep calm & be crazy! This is the name of a stamp from Impression Obsession that I ordered recently. It’s just the sentiment, no images, so I thought I’d pair it up with my Concord & 9th Faceted Turnabout Stencils.

BRIGHT BIRTHDAY WISHES

I used the large stencil for a full panel background. The sad part is that most of it is covered up with the sentiment, so I thought I’d take a picture of it, before adding the sentiment panel.

Can you see that gorgeous geometric shape, right in the middle? One day, I’m going to cut out & use just that part! These Turnabout Stencils are really easy to use, and you can use any colour combination you want. I chose Blueprint Sketch, Spiced Marmalade, Abandoned Coral and Mustard Seed Distress Inks.

CARD FRONT DETAILS

There’s not a lot to tell; I first created the stencil background, and then sprayed it with some Sheer Shimmer Craft Spray in Frost, from Tsukineko. This adds a lovely shimmer, with a bit of white.  Set that aside to dry, and stamp the sentiment onto a panel of white cardstock, using the Abandoned Coral. I set up the cardstock & stamp in my MISTI, so that I could stamp it more than once. Distress ink tends to be a bit lighter, and not always ‘solid’ on the first stamping. So, inking up the stamp and stamping a 2nd time ensures a nice, crisp image.

Using some banner dies from my stash, I cut the sentiment and a cardstock piece to layer behind it. Everything is layered together with foam squares and/or tape, for extra dimension.

I tilted the card for the photo above, so that you can see the lovely shimmer spray!  I think it adds just the little extra something that the card needed, but without taking away from the fun sentiment, or the pretty stencil.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)
