Let's Get (Di)Stressed - A Blog Hop

Welcome to our October Blog Hop with Scrap ‘N Stamp! This month it’s Let’s Get (Di)Stressed – A Blog Hop;  all about Distress Oxide Inks!

Let's Get (Di)Stressed - A Blog Hop

LET’S GET (DI)STRESSED!

If you’ve never taken a blog hop before, it’s very simple! At the end of each participant’s post, you will find a link to the next blog on the Hop. Simply click those links on each blog, and eventually you’ll make it all the way around the Hop! If you’re more of a ‘do what I want’ kinda person, no problem! You’ll also find a list of all the participants, so you can click directly onto each link.

Each of us in the Design Team have created at least 1 project, featuring the Distress Oxide inks. If you’ve never used these inks before, you’re in for a treat! We’ll be sharing different ways to  use them, and different looks you can achieve. Have tons of fun! And be sure to leave a comment on each blog post – because there’s a PRIZE TO BE WON! One lucky person will be randomly drawn from all of the comments, and will receive a $50 GIFT CERTIFICATE to SCRAP ‘N STAMP! You can stock up on your own Distress Oxides, or whatever else your heart desires.

CATHEDRAL OF TREES

If you’re following from the beginning of the Hop order, you’ll  have arrived here from Kia’s amazing blog. Isn’t she incredible? I love her designs. I’ve created 2 cards for you, both using the same Distress Oxide colours as well as stamps. The switch-up is in the image stamp; I’ve used different colours, which you can see changes the look of the project.

The stamp set I’ve used is the 6″ x 6″ Cathedral of Trees, by Hero Arts. For this first card, I’ve stamped the trees in Nocturne ink, and set with clear embossing powder.

The background is created by starting with a light blue cardstock panel. This was an experiment for me; I usually start on a white base. But the inks blended very well on the blue, so I went with it!

CARD DETAILS

Start by blending your darkest colour around the edges of the panel. Next, add your darkest purple, then medium blue, light purple, and finally lightest blue in the middle. The colours I chose are Chipped Sapphire, Dusty Concord, Faded Jeans, Wilted Violet and Broken China Distress Oxides.

Next, set up the stamp and your blended panel in your stamp platform. First stamp the Cathedral of Trees in Nocturne ink, then again immediately in Versamark ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now, use your Mini Mister to spray water onto the panel; you can also spray into your hand, and then flick it onto the cardstock. Blot up any excess with a paper towel. Now you can see the activation of the oxide – the droplets leave behind an effect that looks like snow. Stamp the sentiment from the Concord & 9th Mistletoe Messages stamp set in Versamark ink in the middle. Cover with WOW white embossing powder, and heat set. Finally, add more snowflakes with a white pen. Now attach the finished panel onto a dark blue card base, with foam tape.

CATHEDRAL OF TREES IN SILVER!

For this second card, I started by stamping the Cathedral of Trees onto a white card base, in Versamark ink. I cover the image with WOW Silver embossing powder, and heat set. Next, I repeated the same blending of Distress Oxides inks – the exact colours as above. The misting with water and heat embossed sentiments are the same as well. This time, after adding more snowflakes, I decided to add a little shooting star!

I also changed the orientation to horizontal, from portrait, and used a purple card base. Just a few little changes, but it changes the look of the final project quite a bit, doesn’t it? Below, you can see the 2 cards together. Do you prefer one over the other?

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)
