I love getting lots of use from my supplies, and one way to do that is to mix and match! Of course companies come out with coordinating products for a finished look in ‘their style’. But it’s fun to create your own by taking pieces from different companies, and putting them together to create something unique. For today’s card, I’ve done a mix and match with stencils, dies and stamps.
ALTENEW LAYERED DAHLIA STENCIL ‘A’
This gorgeous dahlia stencil can be bought together with the ‘B’ stencil, but it can also be used by itself. That’s what I’ve done here, to create the background.
Start with a panel of white cardstock, and layer the stencil on top. Use a temporary adhesive to hold it in place; either Purple Tape, or a spray. With a blending tool, apply Wilted Violet Distress Oxide ink, making it darker towards the middle of the flower, and lighter as you work outwards. Remove & clean your stencil, when you’re done.
Die cut the sentiment from the Concord & 9th Fabulous Phrases Die set twice; once in dark gray, and once in black. Layer the two together with the gray on top, using the black to create a ‘shadow’ behind it. Attach it to the bottom third of the panel with glue.
Stamp the sentiment from the MFT Well, Hello stamp set in Nocturne ink onto a strip of white cardstock. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Use glue to attach it underneath the die cut words.
On a dark gray card base, attach a strip of silver foil cardstock down the left side, and then attach your front panel with foam tape.
This is almost a one layer card! But it’s still very ‘mail’ friendly.
This card comes together very quickly, even though I’ve used 3 different sets to create it. I’ve included shopping links below, if you’d like to order any of these items. Anyway, I hope I’ve inspired you to look at your supplies with an eye to seeing what you can pull together – think outside the ‘box’ (albeit a very pretty one) that the manufacturers create for us.
