My Best Friend

MY BEST FRIEND

Well stamping friend, we made it to Friday! I hope you’ve been enjoying this week’s projects; if you haven’t been following each day, you can simply scroll backwards to see the posts. Also, if you haven’t already left a comment on my Scrap ‘N Stamp ‘Some Like It Hot’ Blog Hop post – this is your last chance! The winners will be randomly drawn and announced on Monday, Feb. 25th! Be sure to look & read a comment – CLICK HERE to see the post. Today’s post features a new stamp set that just arrived (I love happy mail!) called My Best Friend, by Impression Obsession.

ALL YOU NEED IS A DOG

As soon as I saw this stamp image, I knew I had to have the stamp! You may recall that our beloved black Lab, Shadow, passed last year. I’ve been missing him dearly ever since; this image reminds me of him.

My Best Friend

I could just sit and look at this image all day, and feel peaceful.

IMAGE DETAILS

First, start with a piece of watercolour paper. I  used Arches Hot Pressed 140lb. Stamp the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and cover it with Clear Embossing Powder. Set with a heat tool.

To colour the image, use your favourite medium – or try a new one! I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers with a water brush. First, add some colour to the image, then switch to your water brush (or paint brush) to blend the ink. Work on one colour at a time, and allow time to dry. When colouring, I switched areas so that I wasn’t adding ink right next to an area that was still wet. That helps to reduce the chance of muddying your colours. I used the following colours in my image: #030 Blue, #025 Pink, #060 Brown, #072 Beige, #050 Yellow, #091 Light Gray and #071 Flesh Color.

Here’s a close up picture, so you can see the colours and shading.

CARD FRONT DETAILS

After the colouring has dried, use a stitched square die to die cut the image. Attach it to a layer of dark blue cardstock with foam tape or squares. Add this on top of a panel of white cardstock, and then onto a panel of patterned paper. Finally, attach the front panels to a white card base.

I decided to not put the sentiment on the front of the card, thus leaving the image as the focus. I did stamp ‘All You Need is Love and a Dog’ sentiment on the inside – this is from the Penny Black Sentiment Collection.

My Best Friend

I’m quite happy with how this image turned out! I know I’ll be using it a lot, and changing up the colours. For example, I will of course be doing a black dog, in memory of Shadow. Here’s a  picture of my fur  baby.

My Best Friend

One of his favourite toys was this stuffed pumpkin! He just loved having stuffies to play with – some of them lasted longer than others.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)

  1. What a lovely card! LOVE that image, and the sentiment is perfect. So sorry about Shadow. Even though it’s been a year, it’s still hard, I know. He was beautiful!

    1. I’m so glad that you like my ‘best friend’ card, Buffy! I’m starting to get the hang of colouring with the Zig markers.

    1. Thanks for your comments, Susan, on both the card, and Shadow. He really was a best friend to everyone in the family 🙂

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
