ALL YOU NEED IS A DOG
As soon as I saw this stamp image, I knew I had to have the stamp! You may recall that our beloved black Lab, Shadow, passed last year. I’ve been missing him dearly ever since; this image reminds me of him.
I could just sit and look at this image all day, and feel peaceful.
First, start with a piece of watercolour paper. I used Arches Hot Pressed 140lb. Stamp the image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink, and cover it with Clear Embossing Powder. Set with a heat tool.
To colour the image, use your favourite medium – or try a new one! I used my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers with a water brush. First, add some colour to the image, then switch to your water brush (or paint brush) to blend the ink. Work on one colour at a time, and allow time to dry. When colouring, I switched areas so that I wasn’t adding ink right next to an area that was still wet. That helps to reduce the chance of muddying your colours. I used the following colours in my image: #030 Blue, #025 Pink, #060 Brown, #072 Beige, #050 Yellow, #091 Light Gray and #071 Flesh Color.
Here’s a close up picture, so you can see the colours and shading.
CARD FRONT DETAILS
After the colouring has dried, use a stitched square die to die cut the image. Attach it to a layer of dark blue cardstock with foam tape or squares. Add this on top of a panel of white cardstock, and then onto a panel of patterned paper. Finally, attach the front panels to a white card base.
I decided to not put the sentiment on the front of the card, thus leaving the image as the focus. I did stamp ‘All You Need is Love and a Dog’ sentiment on the inside – this is from the Penny Black Sentiment Collection.
I’m quite happy with how this image turned out! I know I’ll be using it a lot, and changing up the colours. For example, I will of course be doing a black dog, in memory of Shadow. Here’s a picture of my fur baby.
One of his favourite toys was this stuffed pumpkin! He just loved having stuffies to play with – some of them lasted longer than others.
