PCC300 SKETCH CHALLENGE
Let’s get this party started, shall we?! Here’s our sketch for this week
I used to be totally intimidated by this kind of sketch! I mean – look at all that blank space; it used to cause dread in my heart. But now, I’m learning to embrace it, and work with it. All that ‘blank space’ can really let your focal image pop – so use it to your advantage.
Remember that you can change to shape of the focal image; it doesn’t have to be flowers. Make it balloons, or stars, or whatever else you want! Have fun – I can’t wait to see what you create.
TROPICAL ESCAPE
Having said that, I DID keep the focal shapes as flowers! I was dying to use my new Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper that had just arrived. You can coordinate it with the entire Tropical Escape Suite of products, including the Tropical Chic Bundle. It includes the Tropical Chic stamp set and the Tropical Thinlits Dies. I don’t have those, so I used my Colourful Seasons stamp set with the Seasonal Layers Thinlits.
DETAILS
Instead of overwhelming the card front with the designer paper, I thought it worked better as the strip down the side. To create this card, first cut a 4″ x 5 1/4″ panel of Tranquil Tide cardstock. Attach a 1 1/2″ wide strip of Tropical Escape DSP down the left hand side, with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. Attach this panel to a card base made of Lemon Lime Twist cardstock.
Use the Colorful Seasons stamp set to stamp the large flower in Berry Burst ink onto a scrap of Whisper White cardstock. Stamp the sentiment, from the Hand Delivered host stamp set, on another strip of Whisper White, in Lemon Lime Twist ink. Use Paper Snips to create a banner tail on the right hand end of the strip.
With the Big Shot and the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies, die cut the stamped flower, then die cut a smaller flower from Blushing Bride cardstock. Die cut the detailed maple leaf from Lemon Lime Twist cardstock. I chose the maple leaf as I didn’t want a heavy, solid leaf behind the flowers. To me, that seemed like it would look too ‘heavy’ for the focal area.
First add the die cut leaf to the front panel with a Stampin’ Dimensional, then add the sentiment banner. Attach the flowers on top, with more Dimensionals. Finish off your card front by adding 3 of the Glitter Enamel Dots (they’re actually Granny Apple Green, but I think they’re close enough to Lemon Lime Twist!).
I think that while the layout is simple, the impact is big, with the colours and layers.
STAMP INSIDE, OF COURSE!
As always, add a light coloured panel inside your card, for your sentiment and message. I usually add Whisper White, or Very Vanilla, if that’s what I’ve used on the front.
The sentiment, from the Colorful Seasons stamp set, is stamped in Lemon Lime Twist ink. I then added a few of the stamped flowers, in Blushing Bride ink. Throughout this card, I pulled my colours from those in the Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper that I used.

This is a great card for the sketch. It is simple yet detailed with the leaves and flowers. Very nice!
I’m better when my ‘white space’ doesn’t have to be white, I think! Glad you like the sketch and my card, Susan 🙂
Beautiful card, Deborah! Love the “not so white” space. It’s perfect for the sketch.
Tranquil Tide lives up to its name, don’t you think Buffy? I really like it 🙂 So glad you like my card, and the sketch.
