Hello my stamping friend, and welcome to this week’s Paper Craft Crew challenge!

This week, PCCCS223 is a sketch challenge for you.

As I was wondering what I should for the focal area, my eyes wandered about my stamping area, and I spied several things (okay, my desk is a cluttered mess – it’s easy to spy a lot of things!) that I could use.  Of course, I decided NOT to use anything that was already out – I pulled out a retired set that I  wish had stuck around…. Thoughtful Branches.

I knew that I wanted to do a Christmas/winter theme, since we’re in that season, so I decided to make my tree look like it was snow covered.

It’s quite easy to do – just die cut 1 tree using the Big Shot and the (retired) Beautiful Branches Thinlits die from Whisper White cardstock, then die cut another one from Early Espresso cardstock.  I then layered them, with the white on top, just offsetting them enough so that it looks like the branches can be seen beneath the ‘snow’.

To layer them together I used the Mini Glue Dots; now I know that the glue dots are round, but did you know that you can change their shape?  I use either my Piercing Tool or my fingers, and roll them as I’m picking them up off of the non-stick backing; that makes them a long & skinny shape, which is perfect for placing behind the branches of the tree!

Here’s a close up picture of the trees layered together:

For the background, I started with a card base of Sahara Sand cardstock.  I took a panel of Soft Sky cardstock, and ran it through the Big Shot with the Seaside Embossing Folder, to give it the look of snow drifts.  Then I added a panel of patterned paper from the upcoming new Falling in Love Designer Series Paper – you really will fall in love with this paper!  The patterns are gorgeous!

After layering the DSP, I wrapped the retired Gold Cording Trim twice around the join area, then added a small bow, again using a Glue Dot to attach.

The sentiment is from an old retired set; I stamped in Early Espresso ink onto Whisper White cardstock, cut a banner tail at one end using the Banner Triple Punch, then used a Sponge Dauber to add a bit of Soft Sky ink to the edges.  The little birds from the Thoughtful Branches set were stamped in Real Red onto Whisper White cardstock, and die cut with the Beautiful Branches Thinlits Dies.  Everything was added to the card front using either Mini Glue Dots or Stampin’ Dimensionals, then for a final touch, 3 Rhinestone Jewels were added.

I’m really pleased with how this card turned out – I’d love to hear what you think!  Just leave me a comment, before you head over to the Paper Craft Crew blog page to see what the rest of the Design Team have created.

Be sure to link your card for the challenge!  You could be our next Top Pick!

Until next time – happy stamping!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
