Nope, it’s not Saturday – only Tuesday! But I have created this card for the Penny Black Saturday Challenge ‘Something New’. On the first Saturday of each month, a new challenge is posted. You can either work with the chosen theme, or ‘anything goes’. Since I have this Penny Black Ocean Breeze stamp that I haven’t used yet – it’s my Something New!
We’ve just had our first ‘real’ snow here in Vancouver over the weekend! Here on the west coast, people don’t really know how to handle snow. Unfortunately that includes our city road departments, who, try as they might, can’t clear the roads. So it’s a gong show out there, people! Do what I’m doing – stay indoors, and pull out your projects! I’d enjoy being on this beach, pictured in the Ocean Breeze stamp.
Doesn’t that look warm, and peaceful? Much better than sliding around in the snow and ice!
Set up your watercolour paper and stamp in your MISTI, or other stamp platform. This will allow you to keep the stamp and paper in place, while using different ink colours. Start by adding Vintage Photo ink to the palm tree trunks and sand area. Repeat the inking & stamping until you have good ink coverage. This will be several times, due to the nature of the Distress ink, and the texture of the watercolour paper. Next, move on to the tops of the trees, and those to the left. I chose a combination of Shabby Shutters, a lighter green, and Mowed Lawn, a darker green. Now, go back over the sand areas with Tea Dye ink, to add some colour variation.
Once you’ve finished with the ink pads, clean off the stamp. Now, cover the stamp with Versamark ink, and stamp over the inked image. Do this a couple of times, for good coverage. Remove the panel from the MISTI, cover the image with clear embossing powder, and then heat set. Now your ink is protected and you can move on to water colouring the rest of the image.
I like to use my Zig Clean Color Real Brush markers for smaller images. Start with a wet water brush or paint brush, and apply some clear water to the sand areas. Next, add colour with the Beige 072 and Dark Brown 062 markers. Immediately use your wet brush again to spread the ink. Repeat these steps for the water, with the Cobalt Blue 031, Persian Blue 032 and Blue 030, and the Blue and Cobalt for the sky.
Allow your panel to dry, or use a heat tool to dry it. Once the panel is dry, stamp the sentiment from the Penny Black Sentiment Collection in Versamark ink. Cover it with copper embossing powder, and then set with the heat tool.
LAYER IT TOGETHER
Cut a piece of fun foam the same size as your watercolour panel, and attach it to the back. Next, attach it to a dark blue cardstock panel. Attach these panels to a dark green card base, and you’re done!
Yup – a nice walk along this beach would be great!
