Welcome to a new sketch challenge with the Paper Craft Crew! I’m interrupting my ‘floral frenzy’ streak to share a card made with the Picket Fence Studios BFF Owl stamp. I actually won this super cute stamp from a contest on the talented Angela Bode’s blog – you can see here amazing projects HERE. When I saw this week’s sketch, I knew I could use this adorable owl for my project.
PCC336 SKETCH CHALLENGE
First, let’s have a look at the sketch.
This is your starting point; you can change the orientation to sideways or upside down. You can also change the focal shape. As long as the basic sketch is recognizable, the rest is up to you!
I changed the focal shape to an oval, to accommodate the owl size. Otherwise, the rest of the layout is pretty much the same!
A coffee drinking owl – could you ask for more?! She may have gone a little heavy on the blue eye shadow, but hey – I’m not the fashion police!
First, stamp the owl image in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto a piece of white cardstock. Die cut the owl with an oval die. To colour the owl, use your favourite medium; I’m still currently enamored with my new Faber-Castelle Polychromos pencils, so that’s what I used! After colouring the image, I set it aside to create my card base.
I attached a green card panel to a white cardstock card base with foam tape. Next, I glued a piece of striped paper to the bottom two-thirds of the panel. I cut a blue banner strip, and attach it across the top with more foam tape. Next, I attached the owl oval with foam squares. The small coffee cup is die cut from a piece of patterned paper, and attach to the bottom of the oval. I decided to add some dimension to my owl’s pearls; I used Nuvo Crystal Glaze and added one drop on each of the pearls. Finally, the front panel is finished off with a few silver metallic dots.
