Sassy Pants Best Friends

It’s Monday! I hope you had a good weekend, my stamping friend! Personally, I didn’t watch the Super Bowl, but I know a lot of people did.  Was it just for the commercials? Let me know if there were any really good ones! I’ll have to look them up on YouTube; the American tv broadcasters don’t like to share them with us Canadians.  Anyway – I did get to spend some time with some new stamps! I first saw the sentiment stamp set called Sassy Pants Best Friends, by My Favorite Things, on the amazing Lydia Fiedler’s blog. (If you aren’t already following her, WHY NOT??! Seriously – she’s an terrific artist, and so generous with sharing techniques & knowledge. Find her here at Understand Blue).

But I digress…as soon as I saw the stamp set, I knew I had to have it. It took me a while, but I got it! The sentiments are perfect for those great friends who ‘get’ you, and you ‘get’ them. You know; the friends who won’t be offended by the wording, and will share the joke with you.

I decided to pair this funny sentiment with a cute dog stamp that I got from a friend online. It’s one of those ‘unbranded’ stamps, that isn’t terrific quality, but I just loved the images – dog and cat – so I bought it! Have a look – you’ll see why!

Sassy Pants Best Friends

Who could resist those puppy dog eyes?!  The large ‘helloooo’ comes with the stamp set; the one below is from the MFT Sassy Pants Best Friends stamp  set. Now, if I were to send this card to my cousin in Scotland, she’d have a good laugh, and call me ‘cheeky’! 😉

First, stamp the dog in Memento Tuxedo Black ink onto white cardstock. Use your favourite markers, paints or pencils to colour him in. After colouring, I stamped his nose and paws a second time on a scrap piece of cardstock. When I finished colouring them again, I hand cut them with my scissors.

Next, cut a 2″ x 5 1/4″ piece of dark gray cardstock, and embossed it with a brick wall embossing folder. Sponge on some dark gray ink, to add some more texture to the wall. Attach it underneath the dog’s face, with glue. Then, piece the hand cut nose & paws on top, so that the paws & claws are hanging over the top of the wall.

Sponge some Tumbled Glass Distress Ink on the background, behind the dog’s head. (I noticed too late that I got a smudge of black ink on one side. Arrgh! I’ll have to sand it off).

Stamp the 2 sentiments onto white cardstock. Use a 1″ circle punch to snip off the corners of each one, making them look like a ticket. Attach them to the front panel with foam tape or squares.

Now you can attach the front panel onto a red card base. Since otherwise the colours used are  pretty neutral, the red base brightens it up.

Whether it’s a fun card for a friend, or to a sweetheart who’s away – I think anyone would like this!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
