Sending Hugs & Happy Thoughts

I need to increase my stash of birthday cards. Or at least, multi-purpose cards. You know – the ones that can be for birthday, thinking of you, congratulations. That sort of unicorn of the card world! So I thought that the sentiment Sending Hugs & Happy Thoughts would be perfect. It’s from the Altenew Beautiful Day stamp set, which I used to create today’s card.

I love the multi-layered stamps in this set. You can easily create realistic looking flowers. Or create a  ‘no line’ look, if you leave off the outline stamp, as I did in this card.

Sending Hugs & Happy Thoughts

I also used the smaller leaf/flower stamps which are single layer, as well as the large leaf stamps which are 2 layer stamps.

Start with a panel of white cardstock to stamp your images. Stamp 2 of the large flowers, 2 of the large leaves and 2 of the small leaf/flower combinations. You just need 1 of the longer stems of leaf/flower combos. I chose to create my flowers in a yellow/orange combination of Mustard Seed and Spiced Marmalade Distress inks, and SU! Mango Melody ink. For the leaves, I used a combination of SU! Old Olive and Granny Apple Green.

After stamping your images, use the coordinating Beautiful Day dies from Altenew with your Big Shot to die cut them.  At the same time, use an oval die to cut out the middle of a 4″ x 5 1/4″panel of light green cardstock. Cut a panel of white cardstock to the same size.

Without adhesive, place your leaves and flowers to the left side of the cut out oval, to determine where to stamp your sentiment on the white cardstock underneath. Stamp the sentiment in one of the colours you used for the flowers.

Now that you’ve stamped your sentiment, attach the die cut green panel on top of the sentiment panel, using foam tape or squares. Next, glue the first layer of leaves and flowers directly to the green panel. Attach the final flower with foam tape or squares, to add more dimension.  Finally, layer the front panels onto a coordinating card base, with more foam tape or squares.

Finish off the card front by adding some Clear Droplets from Pretty Pink Posh, attached with Gina K. Connect Glue.

What do you think? Suitable for a birthday, and several other occasions? I think even a get well, or sympathy would work.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
