Under the Mistletoe with Dashing Deer

If you’re like me, you love the gorgeous patterned paper by Stampin’ Up! This card helps you show off your designer paper, with it’s layout. I used the beautiful Joyous Noel Specialty Designer Series Paper, which has foil accents on one side of each of the 12 sheets.

Another of my favourites from the Holiday catalogue is the Dashing Deer Bundle. It was top of my list, as soon as I saw the catalogue! I’ve already used it on a couple of other cards; you can see them HERE and HERE (links will open in another tab, so you won’t lose your place on this post!)

I just LOVE the copper foil accents in this designer paper!

There’s a lot of layers to this card, which take a bit of time to cut.  Otherwise, it’s quite easy to make!

Card Base – is Merry Merlot cardstock, 5 1/2″ x 8 1/2″, scored & folded at 4 1/4″. Next layer is Copper Foil sheet, which measures 4″ x 5 1/4″. Create the DSP panels from the Joyous Noel Specialty DSP. The panels measure as follows: 1 1/4″ x 1 1/4″, 1 1/4″ x 3 1/2″, 2 1/4″ x 3 1/2″ and 1 1/4″ x 2 1/4″.  Next, cut a panel of Basic Black cardstock to go under each DSP panel – just cut your cardstock 1/8″ larger than the DSP.

Attach each DSP panel to its corresponding cardstock panel, with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Next, attach the panels to the Copper Foil panel, again with Dimensionals.

Stamp the sentiment from the Dashing Deer stamp set in Versamark ink onto a 1/2″ wide strip of Whisper White cardstock. Cover it with Copper Embossing Powder. Shake off any excess powder, then set it with the Heat Tool. Now cut a strip of Basic Black cardstock at 3/4″ wide. Use the Banner Triple Punch to create tails on both ends of both the white and black cardstock. Layer them together with Dimensionals.

Use the Big Shot with the Detailed Deer Thinlits dies, and cut the jumping deer twice; once in Copper Foil and once in Basic Black. Attach the two together, slightly offsetting them, to create a shadow effect. Use Mini Glue Dots to attach them; you can roll the glue dots between your fingers to make them thin enough to fit the skinny parts of the die cut. This picture below shows a close up of the layering, and the gorgeous copper embossing.

Finally, you’re ready to finish assembly! Attach the sentiment to the bottom third of the front panel with Dimensionals. Then attach the ‘dashing deer’ above it, with the bottom legs partially over the sentiment strip, as  in the picture.

Take a minute to admire your masterpiece! I did! 🙂

Yes, I say it every time – always stamp the inside panel! First, add a panel of Whisper White cardstock to the inside of the card. Stamp the sentiment from the Dashing Deer set in Merry Merlot ink. Next, stamp one of the smaller standing deer in the bottom right corner, also in Merry Merlot. Now, doesn’t that look ‘finished’? When you’re ready to send your card – stamp on the envelope, too!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
