SNOWFLAKE BLIZZARD AND HERD OF REINDEER
It’s that time again – time for Christmas card classes! Last month, a good friend of mine asked me to do a card class at her church. She was going to take sign ups, and it is scheduled for next weekend. Well, she was expecting maybe 20-25 people; we’ve now ended the sign ups at 34! Oh my goodness! I’m so glad that when she asked me, I reached out to my team member, Lynn, who agreed to take this on with me. Now I’m doubly glad, and Lynn has reached out to her team member Penny, who will also help out! That’s why I recently shared this photo on Facebook – my snowflake blizzard and herd of reindeer!
This is *almost* all of the reindeer we’ll need for one of the card designs. They are all die cut using the Big Shot and the Detailed Deer Thinlits Dies. They are gorgeous in the Gold Foil Paper. Underneath the reindeer, you can see some of the snowflakes in the beautiful Silver Foil Paper. They are die cut with the Blizzard Thinlit Die.
DIE CUTTING TIPS
When you have to die cut this many of anything, you want the process to be as quick as possible! This is what I found worked the best. Use your Big Shot Multipurpose Platform, on Tab 1 (all closed). Next, place your Precision Plate on top. Then, contrary to what we’ve been taught, place your die with the cutting side up, and your cardstock/paper on top of that. Put your Clear Plate on top of that, and then roll it through the Big Shot, back & forth several times. With the Blizzard Thinlit, I went back & forth twice (so 2x forward, 2x backwards). Because the snowflakes are so detailed, I found this was necessary for them to release easily.
For the Detailed Deer Thinlits, I again used the Precision Plate, and place the die cutting side up. Again, I just felt that it required less passes through the Big Shot, and the little pieces between the antlers released more easily.
The Precision Plate really helps with these intricate die cuts, as well. I know that everyone’s Big Shot is a bit different, tension-wise, so you do have to tailor how many passes you need for each die cut to release easily.
BEAUTIFUL BLIZZARD CARD
This is the card that uses the snowflakes!
The colour palette for this card is Whisper White, Pool Party, Balmy Blue and Silver. If this card looks familiar, it’s because it’s a ‘stepped up’ version of one I did a couple of months ago. If you missed it, you can READ THAT POST HERE.
The beautiful gold foil reindeer are being used on this card – only 1 reindeer per card!
This card was designed by my team member, Lynn! I think it’s gorgeous, with it’s palette of Smoky Slate, Soft Suede and Gold.
