STAINED GLASS LOOK
Welcome to Friday – or as some say, Fri-Yay! When you work from home like I do, I find there’s not too much of a difference in days. Except for the number of people home with me while I work! Anyway, today I have something different to share with you. It’s an easy stained glass look, using a detailed die and some markers.
I have a hummingbird feeder outside my window, close to where my computer is. My favourite pastime is watching the hummingbirds come to the feeder, and chase each other around! We have Anna and Rufous hummingbirds year-round here, as our temperatures are generally mild. So I keep the feeder full all year, to keep them visiting. The colours I chose are sort of a combination of both of the above species.
I don’t often purchase ‘unbranded’ dies – those not made by any particular company – but I do love hummingbirds, and couldn’t resist this one! To start, die cut the frame from black cardstock, and then attach it to a panel of white cardstock. Initially, I was going to watercolour the image, but forgot and didn’t attach the die cut to watercolour paper. So – alcohol markers it is! I chose to leave some of the areas white, to leave the focus on the hummingbird and flowers.
The flowers are in Rich Razzleberry combo; the leaves in Old Olive combo Stampin’ Write Blends markers. For the hummingbird, I chose Light & Dark Highland Heather, Light Old Olive, and Light Blushing Bride. The circle behind the bird is in Light Daffodil Delight. To tie it all together, I repeated the same green, yellow and dark purple around the edges of the frame.
Finally, I added Clear Wink of Stella across the entire hummingbird, and on the yellow portions of the window pane. This photo below shows a close up of the sparkle.
Doesn’t that look pretty? I wanted to mimic the iridescence of the hummingbird’s natural colours.
FINISH THE CARD
To finish off the card, I added the panel to a black cardstock panel, and then added that to a Rich Razzleberry cardstock base. I decided to leave off any sentiment right now; I can always add one later, when I’ve decided when & for what occasion to give this card.
Since I bought this die from an online group, I don’t have any links to give you today! If you do have any questions, please feel free to leave a comment. I do read them daily, and reply! Thanks for spending some time with me today. I’ll be back with a special post on Sunday, for the Scrap ‘N Stamp Design Team!
