Studio Katia Peony Trimmings

Happy Friday, my friend! We’ve made it through another week. I hope it was a good one for you. Are you looking forward to some crafting time this weekend? Be sure to check out my earlier posts from this week for new ideas on DIY stencils, alcohol ink backgrounds & textures, as well as recent new product releases. Today I’m sharing a card made with a recent release – it’s the Studio Katia Peony Trimmings. Thanks to a wonderful friend, Marisela, I recently got the stamp set and coordinating dies.

PEONY TRIMMINGS

Studio Katia has several ‘trimmings’ stamp & die sets. They’re called ‘trimmings’ because you can place the stamp on the edge of your project or card, and use the coordinating die to ‘trim’ the edge around the stamp. It gives this beautiful look to the edge of your card. Have a look below!

Isn’t that beautiful?! Plus, the stamp set comes with 2 large peony trimmings images that are slightly different from each other. You can use them separately (and they each have their own coordinating die), or you can join them together for one large image!

CARD DETAILS

I knew that I was going to do the edge trimming, so I start with a white card base. Stamp one of the peony images towards the outer edge of the card front, in Nocturne ink. Cover it with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now you’re good to colour with your favourite medium. I chose a combination of my Copic and Spectrum Noir markers.  For the peonies, I chose the Bright Pink Tri-Blend and Citrus Blend Tri-Blend markers. Green Copic markers G03, YG07 and YG25 are used for the leaves.  After colouring, use the coordinating Peony Trimmings die to die cut the edge of the card – it beautifully outlines the flowers & leaves.

To add detail to the rest of the card front, layer the TCW Plaid Fringe stencil over the front. Use a blending brush to apply Spun Sugar Distress Oxide ink in random areas, keeping it light. Next, stamp the 2 sentiments from the Peony Trimmings stamp set onto white cardstock in Nocturne ink. Cover with clear embossing powder, and heat set. Now, use the coordinating dies & die cut the sentiments. I just LOVE that this die set comes with all of the different sentiment strip dies that match the sentiment stamps. You know my motto – “one does not simply buy the stamps without the dies!”  Attach the sentiments with foam tape. Finally, finish off the front by adding a few Iridescent Bubbles.

For a ‘one layer’ card, I think this turned out pretty special! Mari, I haven’t decided if I’m sending you this card, or a different one – so you’ll just have to wait & see what arrives in your mailbox! Thank you, my friend, for this wonderful gift!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
