Welcome to this week’s Watercooler Wednesday challenge!
This week is a timely challenge – it’s Gail’s Clean & Simple Summer Theme 🙂
This one was a bit of a challenge for me; what to use for a summer theme? Â Then, it came to me….
Fireflies in a jar!  Although it’s a summer ritual I’ve never participated in, I’ve read that it’s quite a ‘thing’, in certain areas.  Also, the fireflies can be called lightning bugs.
I wanted to use some summer fresh colours, so I started with a card base of Old Olive cardstock, then added a panel of Daffodil Delight.  These 2 colours make me think of the green grass, and sunshine 🙂  I stamped the jar image from the Jar of Love stamp set in Memento Black ink onto Whisper White cardstock, then added the fireflies; some in the jar, and some already escaped (because you’re not supposed to actually keep them in the jar, right?  that would just be wrong!)  I coloured the little bug butts with my Daffodil Delight Marker, and stamped the ‘glow’ in Daffodil Delight ink.  The wings were coloured lightly with a Blender Pen and Smoky Slate ink, then I added Clear Wink of Stella glitter to the bugs’ wings and tails, for some extra shine.
I added some shading around the jar using my Smoky Slate and Soft Sky Markers. Â The jar lid was stamped onto a scrap piece of Whisper White cardstock in Versamark ink, then heat embossed using Silver Embossing Powder and the Heat Tool. Â I quickly die cut it using the coordinating Everyday Jars Framelits and the Big Shot, and attached it to the card front using Glue Dots. Â The sentiment was stamped in Old Olive ink.
In this photo, you can see a close up of the fireflies, the shading and the lid:
This was a cute a quick card to make – after the initial thought process! 😉  I am thoroughly enjoying this Bundle (I save 10% by buying the Bundle of stamp set & Framelits, over buying the separately), and I know I’ll be using it a lot more!
I hope you’ll go to the Watercooler Wednesday page, and check out the rest of what the Design Team have created for your inspiration. Â Be sure to link up your card too, for the challenge!
Until next time – happy stamping!
What a clever and fun idea Miss Deb. Says Summer perfectly! Also reminds me of my childhood back east where lightening bugs reign supreme on summer evenings. I’m not sure we have them here in the west coast. At least I’ve never seen them anyways. Perhaps their wings won’t take them this far west?
I vaguely remember fireflies when I was little, on the East Coast, Jean, but I don’t think we get them here on the West Coast (those are little wings, after all!) Thanks for your kind comment, my friend 🙂 I’m glad you enjoyed my card.
Very clever card – I thought they were bees at first as we don’t have fireflies here in the UK.
I’m glad you like my fireflies, craftystamping! 🙂 We don’t have fireflies here where I live either, but they sure look cute 🙂
Another exceptionally well done card Deb. I’ve never caught fireflies all though I have seen them up close and personal. I have to say you’re simply rockin’ the Jar stamp set with this challenge. What a great idea to emboss the lid on the jar. Thanks for sharing your talents Deb.
Thanks for such a lovely comment, Penny! I really appreciate it.
Deborah, absolutely darling card. I thought those little “flicks” were for the flowers, but they look great in the lightening bugs.
Jackie, those little ‘flick’s are probably for the flowers – let’s just call it ‘creative license’! I’m glad you liked my card, Jackie 🙂
What a sweet card! I just discovered it on Pinterest by searching SU Jar of Love. I needed thank-you cards for friends, and this was perfect. Thank you so much for the step-by-step instructions; that made it so easy!
I am so glad that you liked my card enough to create it yourself, Dianna! What a wonderful compliment 🙂 Thanks for making my day – I hope you have a wonderful one, too!
