Hello stamping friend!
Wow; the week sure goes by slowly, when you’re not able to be at your work table, stamping & creating 🙁 My back is slowly getting better, but it sure lets me know if I’ve done too much! So, I’m taking a few minutes here to share a project done by one of my terrific INKcredibly Creative Crew Team Members, Chantal Brown.
Chantal joined my team last April, and even though she has a full time job outside of Stampin’ Up!, she knew that she wanted to make this a business, and she started off running! Right after receiving her Starter Kit, Chantal had classes booked during the lunch break at her ‘other’ job – and they were full!! She still does these noon hour classes, and says that everyone who attends just loves them! What a great way to bring your co workers together, have fun, and share your love of stamping! In fact, Chantal worked so hard, and so quickly, that by October of last year, only 6 months after she joined – Chantal earned not only the Quick Start Benefit, but also promoted to the level of Bronze Elite!
Chantal also holds regular classes at her home; something that a lot of demonstrators, including me, do. This is a great way to introduce new people to stamping, and gives a creative outlet for those who are familiar with stamping, but like having company when stamping, or want to keep learning new things. Of course, the social part of any stamping gathering is one of the best, and important parts! After all, we love what we do, and we want to share that. People who come to stamp with us feel the same way, and everyone benefits from the camaraderie, makes new friends, and always leaves with completed projects, and maybe some inky fingers 😉
At one of Chantal’s recent classes, they created this super-fun card using the Seaside Shore stamp set – but that’s not the only thing that makes it special:
Can you spot the special ‘wow’ factor?? Look at those clear bubbles where the stamped fish are swimming – those are REAL BUBBLES!! That’s right – there’s the stamped bubbles, but there are also real bubbles! Wondering how that was done?
First, the card base was created using Night of Navy cardstock. Using the retired Top Note Die, the opening was die cut in the front panel of the card only, using the Big Shot. After the die cutting, the card front was then embossed using the new Seaside Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. It’s a little hard to see on the dark cardstock, but the embossing looks like waves!
Next, the Seaside Shore stamp set was used to stamp the underwater scene; I’m not positive of all the colours Chantal used, but I’ll guess that they are Night of Navy, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach, and Flirty Flamingo. On extra Whisper White cardstock, the extra Angel fish was stamped and coloured, and the sentiment stamped in Night of Navy.
To get the real water effect, Chantal took a small clear bag, one just a big larger than the die cut area, and has a ziplock top (it’s important that nothing leaks out!), and filled it with blue hair gel! That’s the secret ingredient – hair gel! 🙂 If you only had clear hair gel, you could add a few drops of re-inker to colour the gel; just add the ink, gel, close the bag, and smoosh it around (getting all technical on you, here!) until the colour is distributed.
Next, use the Tear & Tape to attach your bag of gel on the inside of your card front, taping it on all 4 sides to hold it in place. Next, attach your stamped fish panel on top of the gel (fish facing outwards, to the front of the card). Using Stampin’ Dimensionals will allow for the extra bit of bulk from the gel bag.
The card was finished off by attaching the sentiment and the hand cut Angelfish to the front; a few sequins to mimic some more bubbles, and it’s done!
I just love this card – I think Chantal did an awesomely creative job putting it together! Of course, her class participants loved making one for themselves, too. This is a technique I’ve been wanting to do for a while, and although I don’t have the Seaside Shore stamp set, I’m sure I can find another one to use in it’s place.
Being part of a team and sharing our creativity is a lot of fun; we learn a lot from each other, and sharing ideas can help out whenever you feel like you just can’t come up with an idea to stamp.
