Watercoloured Sympathy Card

Welcome to September! I hope you had a chance to enjoy the long Labour Day weekend, and take advantage of some of the sales I shared yesterday. Today, I have a watercoloured sympathy card to share with you.  I made this one a couple of months ago, for a dear friend.

BEAUTIFUL DAY BY ALTENEW

I chose one of my favourite floral image stamp sets, called Beautiful Day, by Altenew. They really know how to make floral images, that’s for sure!

CARD DETAILS

Stamp the images first onto watercolour paper, with Versafine Clair Nocturne ink, and heat set. Use  the watercolour medium of your choice for colouring. I chose my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers. First, scribble with the markers onto a slick surface, like a craft mat, or a piece of acetate.  Spray a bit of water into the colours, and apply to the images with a  paint brush.  I apologize, but I didn’t keep track of which colours I used. As I said, I did this a couple of months ago, and under the circumstance, wasn’t writing down what I used.

After colouring, use the matching Beautiful Day dies to die cut each of the images. Use 2 sizes of frame dies, and cut a frame from gold foil paper.

To create the ombre background, apply inks with a blending brush, lightest to darkest, from top to bottom. I think I chose Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry and Worn Lipstick Distress inks.  Attach the gold frame to the panel. Now, stamp the sentiment from the Penny Black Sympathy Sentiments in the middle, in Versamark ink. Cover it with gold embossing  powder, and then heat set. Next, layer and attach the flowers with foam tape or foam squares, for dimension. Finally, attach the front panel to a dark pink card base.

This upside down picture shows you the ombre effect, plus the wonderful dimension with all of the layered flowers.

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to stamp and create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a 3D item, or a card, or scrapbook page - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you stamp and create with me! :)

  1. Beautiful card, Deborah! I love the watercolored flowers and, of course, the ombre background. (Sadly, as I get older, I seem to need sympathy cards more and more.)

I love to read what you have to say! Thanks for commenting ;)
