Welcome back to our Watercooler Wednesday challenge, where this week – Anything Goes!

Before I talk more about this week’s challenge, I want to mention that we are saying ‘goodbye’ to one of our fabulous Watercooler Artist team members, Bev.  Bev has been with the Watercooler Wednesday challenges since inception, and  we are going to miss her creative force here at the ‘cooler, but we understand that when life pulls you one direction, sometimes you have to go with the flow.

The good news is that Bev is staying with Stampin’ Up! (yay!!) and we will continue to see her on our demo-only website, and hopefully she’ll be able to participate in the Watercooler Blog Hops with us occasionally.  Of course you can always visit her on her blog HERE.

Now back to our challenge – wow, it was wonderful to see so many people take part in Marsha’s Clean & Simple Birthday theme challenge last week!  So many awesome cards – our challenge was choosing the Top 3!  Congratulations to everyone who participated!

WWC61 - Anything Goes

This week, as I said earlier, is ‘Anything Goes’!  That’s right – you get to choose the theme, the colours, the layout – so basically, whatever you’re working on this week – link up for the challenge!

What I was working on was a birthday card for my Sister-in-law, so here it is!

WWC61 birthday blooms

I’m a little late to this stamp set, but I’m glad I finally got it – it’s called Birthday Blooms, and it’s in the Occasions catalogue (pg.9).

First I created a background by sponging Pool Party and Pear Pizzazz onto Whisper White cardstock using Sponge Daubers.  I then used a piece of Window Sheet that I had punched different sized holes in, and used another Sponge Dauber and White Craft Ink to sponge the white circles randomly on top of the sponged colours, creating the ‘Bokeh’ effect.  (this refers to an effect in photography, were the focus of the lens causes the lights to appear soft & blurred).

After letting the craft ink dry, I then stamped the large blossom stamp in Archival Black ink in the upper left corner.  I then used my Blender Pens with ink pads in Melon Mambo and Rich Razzleberry to colour the flowers, and Pear Pizzazz and Old Olive with Blender pens for the leaves.

I then stamped the little dots from the Birthday Blooms set in Versamark ink, covered them with Silver Embossing Powder and heat set them with my Heat Tool.  The sentiment, from the same set, was stamped first in Versamark, then in Melon Mambo ink, then directly onto the card front.  I covered it with Clear Embossing Powder, and heat set it.  This is an awesome, easy way to heat emboss in any colour, even if you don’t have the coloured embossing powder!

I layered the stamped panel onto a 4″x5 1/4″ panel of Silver Glimmer Paper, then added them both to a card base of Melon Mambo cardstock.

Of course, I had to decorate the inside, as well!

WWC61 birthday blooms

I stamped the smaller bloom from the Birthday Blooms set in the bottom left corner with Archival Black ink, then used the same Blender Pens and ink pads to colour the flower and leaves, to match the large flower on the front.  The sentiment is from the Garden in Bloom set (pg. 119 Annual catalogue), stamped in Melon Mambo ink.  I added a strip of the Metallics Glitter Tape in Silver – Free from Sale-A-Bration – down the right hand side, then glued the whole panel to the inside of the card.

That’s my card for this week’s challenge; I hope you’ll visit the Watercooler Wednesday challenge page to see the cards the rest of the Watercooler Artists have designed for your inspiration!

I’ll be looking forward to seeing your card!  Until next time – happy stamping!

I've always liked to create things, but I'm not a great artist, or sculptor, or any type of 'traditional' artist - but I love to create! I love the satisfaction of a completed project. Whether a card, painting or other project - as long as it can create a smile, evoke a feeling, or some type of reaction in the recipient. I hope you will enjoy sharing my creations, and occasional ramblings; I'd enjoy having you create with me! :)
