My gosh – I was so excited to look at all of the cards that were submitted for last week’s ‘Anything Goes’ challenge! Congratulations to everyone who entered; they were all fabulous, and it was difficult to choose the top 3.
I hope that you will join in again this week, for WWC62 – Leanne’s Tic Tac Toe challenge – such fun!
The most difficult part was choosing which line I wanted to do; I decided to go on the diagonal, choosing Flower, Butterfly, and Any Shade of Purple.
I saw this layout in a few different places – Pinterest, Facebook, etc., and thought I’d like to give it a try. I like turning the squares into diamond shapes, and I really like spotlighting these flowers from the Garden in Bloom stamp set. This set is in the Annual catalogue (pg. 119, photopolymer).
I love purple, so this wasn’t a difficult card to make! First I started by cutting the squares of Whisper White cardstock at 1 1/4″, then the Elegant Eggplant cardstock for layering behind them at 1 1/2″. I stamped the flower outlines in Elegant Eggplant, then used Wisteria Wonder for the petal colour. I love how this set makes you look like a great watercolour artist, without even bringing out the Aqua Painters! The middle of the flowers was stamped in So Saffron ink.
After layering the flower image pieces, I set them aside to prep my So Saffron layer. I brought out my new favourite Timeless Textures, and stamped the flourish (I think it kind of resembles a loose fleur-de-lis) in the bottom left and top right corners, in So Saffron ink. I then randomly stamped the small dots across the panel, again in So Saffron ink, for that tone on tone look.
I then used my Bitty Butterfly Punch and Elegant Eggplant cardstock to punch out 3 butterflies; to add some texture to them, I stamped the small dots on them, in Elegant Eggplant ink.
I chose the sentiment from the Birthday Blooms set, and stamped it on Whisper White in Elegant Eggplant ink. It and the layer behind it were die cut using the Tags & Labels Framelits; I just love these for layering!
Finally, I assembled all the pieces with Tombow Glue and Stampin’ Dimensionals, and added it to the So Saffron panel. The butterflies were attached using Glue Dots – they’re just the right size. The front panel was then attached to my Elegant Eggplant cardstock base, and I was done!
I think I know who this card will be going to; a certain BFF who loves purple! 😉
Please take a minute and check out the fabulous cards that the rest of the Watercooler Artists have created for your inspiration; then you can get your own card ready to join the challenge!
Until next time – happy stamping!
Great card – I like this technique – I’ve been playing with mosaic cards lately which is a bit similar. Great challenge this week. I’ve been inspired.
I’m so glad to read that you’ve been inspired, Fiona! I can’t wait to see your card linked in for the Watercooler Wednesday challenge 🙂 Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment – I appreciate it!
Deb – Your card is simply stunning! I love the Timeless Textures in the background. Thank you for your inspiration for my Tic Tac Toe challenge this week. -Leanne
Leanne, thanks so much for your lovely comment! I’m really enjoying using the Timeless Textures stamp set; it’s almost taking over for Gorgeous Grunge! 🙂
