Have you found yourself asking the question ‘what day is it’ more often these days? I mean wow – I used to have trouble with the date, but now it’s day of the week! I missed posting yesterday – I think that was Wednesday. Not because I’m not doing anything, but because I’m doing lots!
WORKS IN PROGRESS
The other day I shared a photo of my work in progress, which will be my new line of alcohol ink jewellery. By the way, ‘the other day’ has become my new catch phrase, since I can’t remember when I did what anymore. If you missed that post, you can read it HERE. I’ll share the picture again, below.
So this is just a few of the pieces, after I had applied resin to the front. Since doing that, I’ve now applied resin to the back of the earring pieces – the pendant trays won’t have resin on the back, since they’re metal. I’ve also finished applying resin to the fronts of more earrings. I can’t wait until I’m done with all of these steps, so that I can put them together as actual earrings & pendants!
I’m also working on my coasters, which again, take a lot of steps. After applying the inks, I let them dry for 1 day. The next step is to spray 3 coats of Kamar sealant. This ensures that the inks won’t run or ‘shift’. I let them sit overnight to thoroughly dry, and then spray 3 coats of UV sealant. Alcohol inks are not light-fast, which means that they fade over time & exposure to light. The UV sealant helps prevent this from happening. Finally, the next day is the resin process! And because it is a ‘process’, I want to have several sets of coasters ready to resin at once. These ones, below, are ready for resin. You can read the details about how I made these ones in THIS post.
I’ve just finished spraying the Kamar sealer onto these ones, below – that’s why they’re in a box!
For these coasters above, I used only 2 inks – can you guess which colours? Okay, so the gold is obvious; the other is Pitch Black. I love how the colours in the black break up, and you can see the blues! After applying the ink, I dipped a small brush into the gold mixative, and splattered it on top.
I’m having a lot of fun being creative in ways that aren’t card making. I’m also working on a piece that is part of a group project, that will be donated to a fundraiser. I’ll share more about that, another time. But don’t worry – I’m still also making cards and using ‘regular’ inks and stamps! If I’ve interested you in these other projects, it’s easy to find the supplies you need – I’ve added links below. Until next time – happy creating!
